[comp.sys.atari.st] Digitizers/Overhead displays

01659@AECLCR.BITNET (Greg Csullog) (04/21/89)

If anyone has experience with digitizers for the ST would you please forward
a mini review to me; our group is looking at buying a digitizer (not a hand
held model though).

Does anyone have information of LCD displays to use with the ST? I am looking
for the type of device that one plugs into a micro and it can display the
monitor's image on an LCD display that is placed on an overhead projector so
large groups can see what is going on with the micro. Can PC models be adapted
for use (i.e. will a cable connector change suffice as is used to put EGA
multisync monitors on STs)?

I'm not sure if this will be much use to you, but a company in
the UK is working on such a device for the ST. It's being done
partly as a favour for one of my colleagues who knows an
employee. They are adapting a PC display (imported from the USA,
and which can display EGA) and at the moment they have an extra
box that sits between it and the ST.

When they demoed it for us last month it worked fine in medium
and low res, but they didn't know how to make the device send the
signal to the ST that makes the ST think it has a mono monitor
attached. We (not me personally) told them how to do that, and
sent them away to finish it, with the promise of an order when it
could work in all three resolutions.

As it's something of a custom job, it's not cheap. Prices aren't
yet fixed, but it seems that by the time we add on taxes it will
cost us around 2,000 UK pounds.

We'll know as soon as it's ready, and I'll post full details at
that time. I'd be interested to know if there's any competition.

Graham.

I'd like one of those too, to travel with me (and a lap top portable),
for making presentations.
