Has anyone else been able to use any of the expert commands (not the novice such as -backup) on the ST version of ZOO? The only command that I have been able to use is V. Only the novice commands have worked in making an archive. Also, what kind of memory requirements does this program have? I have a 1 MEG machine and it tells me that it runs out of memory on certain attempts. /-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-\ | "It's only wafer thin." | Lonnie Warpup | Bitnet: 21585XEN@MSU | < -Monty Python's... - - - - - - - - UseNet: uunet!frith!mann > | -"The Meaning Of Life" Internet: mann@frith.egr.msu.edu | \-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-/ UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU /-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-\ | "It's only wafer thin." | Lonnie Warpup | Bitnet: 21585XEN@MSU | < -Monty Python's... - - - - - - - - UseNet: uunet!frith!mann > | -"The Meaning Of Life" Internet: mann@frith.egr.msu.edu | \-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-^-v-/

I've used commands like zoo l <archive>, zoo e// <archive> and zoo aM <archive> *.* without any problems. As to memory, I haven't tried everything yet but the applications I used never ran out of memory on my Mega 2 with a 800 K Ram Disk and about 1.1 M free Ram. Maybe you could give an example of an application that runs out of memory and tell us how much free ram ther was left before you started zoo. Oh, and while I'm at it, the ST zoo unpacks Unix zoo archives without any problems. I have found that it doesn't want to know PC-created zoo archives. I haven't investigated that problem in any depth though. I surmise that you're either running zoo.ttp from the desktop with the old TOS (which capitalizes commandlines -- ~*@$+&@ #@&%!!); or else from a shell which capitalizes arguments before passing them to programs; e.g. PCOMMAND, CPP2, CLI.ACC from STart magazine.... Novice commands in zoo aren't case sensitive, so they'll work fine from the desktop or from one of those perverse shells. The reason "v" works is that zoo has both "v" and "V" as expert switches. (Why is that so many otherwise good cli's display this perversity? BTW, if anyone has a _small_ shell which passes arguments verbatim, would they please post it?) (Another aside: Why don't programs like zoo have a simple command line prompt built in, invoked when they're called without arguments? Three or four lines of code could sure save a lot of hassle.) As for running out of memory, I haven't had any trouble so far. I zoo'd the complete ELAN1V5 distribution, subdirectories and all, into a c220K archive with nary a problem. (The .zoo archive was smaller than the original .arc distribution, BTW, even though zoo stores pathnames; anyone have an explanation for this?) This was on a 1040ST with a 400K ramdisk installed; biggest file was the ELAN executable, at around c150K I think. BBB ---------- Bob Bright <BRIGHT@DALAC.BITNET> Philosophy Dept.
