"Would anyone who has seen DeskJet output and laser printer output care to compare them qualitatively for me? Two specific cases: 1.) Do DeskJet fonts look like they are letter quality? 2.) Are DeskJet graphics sharp and consistent -- something you wouldn't mind taking to a printers for mass production copying?" I've had the DeskJet since August of last year and positive LOVE IT. It's output quality is every bit as good as that of any 300 DPI laser and, when compared side-by-side, there is no difference. I do DTP on the side and am always making masters and then taking them to the printer for run-offs. The important thing to consider is the paper. Generally, the cheaper the paper the better is the key. The reason is because higher-quality paper has cotton fibre which may contribute to the ink traveling on the lint. Xerox photocopy paper works best for me. You *will* get typeset quality from the printer limited only by font generators of your software. Be aware that the DeskJet is NOT a laser. I say that because it hurts on speed when doing graphic dumps. But the newer DeskJet plus is supposed to be faster and the DeskJet that I have is dropping price. See, you can't lose. If you need laser-quality output and are budgetted for less than $1000, then the DeskJet is the way to go. Larry Rymal <Z4648252@SFAUSTIN.BITNET>
