[comp.sys.atari.st] Control Z's in downloads

TK0GRM1@NIU.BITNET (Gordon Meyer) (04/30/89)

James Parker has asked about files being full of ^Z characters.
This is a function of using xmodem, I very seriously doubt if
Uniterm is doing it. Xmodem, unless the host is using a "size
byte" (sort of rare) will pad the last block with however many
^Z characters it takes to bring it up to size for transfer. I
have a very short public domain program called CHOP.TOS which
removes the padding after the file has been downloaded. I rarely
use it, and I didn't write it so I don't know where else you can
get a copy. I'm afraid that I can't "put" it anywhere as my site
doesn't have UUencode...besides the fact that I'm on Bitnet side
of things and encoded files always seem to get munched. So....
sorry I can't offer you the file..but at least now you know where
the problem lies! :-)
