I've been transferring files between my campus UNIX account and my Atari via modem (I'm still looking for 3.5" compatible drives somewhere on our campus network!). This is a long and painful (not to mention costly) process. I've been told that data compression schemes exist that will allow me to shorten my transmission time. Can someone tell me how to get a program (or pair of programs) that will work both in the ST environment and the UNIX environment? Thanks in advance! You might give zoo a try. Zoo is an archiver that also does compresseion. The source for zoo on UNIX machines was recently (or is it some time ago :-)) posted in comp.sources.unix. The binaries for an Atari ST zoo were posted recently in comp.binaries.atari.st. Probably they are available at the archive server for Atari stuff (archive-server@ssyx.ucsc.edu or something). I for one am very satisfied with zoo and am currently trying to get it running for Minix.
