i am considering two st-related purchases, and would appreciate hearing from anyone with either direct experience or reliable information on either of these subjects. 1. moniterm viking monitor. i know that the tube is bloody expensive, but i'm still interested. problem is, i keep getting weird signals every time i poke at this topic. a guy from moniterm told me that they are having trouble getting atari to release a driver they need to successfully field the moniterm monitor as a product. however, i keep hearing that it is being shown at trade shows. i called moniterm, they say the board is ready, for $800, but they won't sell it to me directly, i need to deal with a sales rep. a. what is going on here? b. what software works currently with the viking? c. what role does this missing driver play? d. how/where could i buy the interface board? preferably at a good price. e. when will the spectre 128 support the moniterm viking? f. anyone with direct experience out there???????? 2. second question: hp deskjet. i am almost certainly going to buy either a deskjet or deskjet+. the $/dpi ratio is just too terrific to pass up. i am curious about two things: a. what is the driver situation for gem-based applications? and b. does anyone have experience with imagen's ultrascript for the deskjet? in either gem or spectre/mac environments. given a relatively unreliable mail feed, and the fact that these may be common interest issues, and the relatively narrow group of people qualified to repond to these queries, i don't feel too bad in encouraging you to post, rather than mail, your responses. (i'd be happy to receive mail too, if you want to give it a shot.) thanks in advance. tom love Xerox Engineering Design and Documentation Systems PO Box 2000 Leesburg, VA 22075 (703)729-8000 ARPA: toml.lsbgegpcad@xerox.com XNS: toml:lsbg-egp/cad:xerox UUCP: uunet!smsdpg!ra!toml {sun|rlgvax|hadron}!sundc!ra!toml {rocksvax|sunybcs}!rocksanne!xrxns!toml {cornell|kodak|rutgers|cmcl2|llxn}!rochester!rocksanne!xrxns!toml GENIE: tomlove (infrequently used) Disclaimer: they didn't do it, i did, so leave them alone.
