[comp.sys.atari.st] Looking for MIDI music notation program

etelree@dutrun.UUCP (C. van Reeuwijk) (05/18/89)

A friend of mine is looking for a program that will convert music
played on MIDI into standard musical notation. Until now the only
program has found is Notator from C-lab. He has bought the demo disk,
but is very disappointed by it since it is only a slide show showing
some of the less interesting features of the program. This, plus the
price (dfl1200, about $600), has made him very reluctant to buy the
program.

Are there people who have good/bad/mixed experiences with this program,
or have (cheaper) alternatives?

I haven't seen the demo.
But i use NOTATOR for scoring a 17 piece orchestra for a ballet
about every 6 weeks.
The musicians find the scores exceedingly easy to read.
The newest version of NOTATOR supports laser output and
slanted beams.
NOTATOR is considered the state of the art for integrated
scoring and sequencing. WHen you add up the cost for other
packages that are separate sequencers and scoring programs..
your cost is roughly the same.. while you don't have benefit
of working with ONE program.
