As a follow-up to my posting about using an ST as a Mac or a PC, here is yet another example of how useful emulation can be. I am involved in the development of databases for an operations group at my workplace. Data entry is to be done on and off site using PCs and data will be input from the PCs to either a CYBER or a VAX database. The person who is responsible for project management uses a Mac to prepare all reports for the project. Today, I loaded the data entry program into my ST running PC Ditto and I tested the program. I prepared my review using MS Word under Spectre 128 and sent it to the project manager on his VAX account using Red Ryder 10.3 (KERMIT transfer). Once I had finished using my ST as (i) a PC clone and (ii) a Mac clone, I returned to the GEM mode and went back to using Word Writer to prepare another report. While emulation of PCs and Macs may seem out of place to some, believe me when I say that it is great when you work somewhere that has a mix of machines.
