For my birthday I gave myself a ST-296N to replace my ST-238R. I'm having a bit of trouble installing it. What I did: removed the ST-238 and the Adaptec 4070 from my setup. Carefully checked which pin was 1 on both my BMS-100 host adapter and the drive, and obtained the appropriate 50-pin cable. Connected power to both drive and BMS 100, ACSI to BMS-100, ribbon from BMS-100 to ST-296 and powered up. What happened: The disk spins up, it sounds like the head loads, but the light on the front never flashes, and when I try to run installation software it doesn't recognize that there's a DMA device connected. So I put things back the way they were, and I'm writing this note. Tomorrow I'll hit the official support channels. I'll be real grateful for any help from you folks (why do I trust net people more than official customer support people? Steve J.
