[comp.sys.atari.st] menace & 1Meg STs

wpc@druin.ATT.COM (W. P. Christmas) (05/24/89)

The game Menace has been crashing on my 512ST (upgraded to 1Meg)
after anywhere from 2 seconds to 30 seconds of play.
It acts as though ram is getting corrupted; i.e., the graphics
will go weird but the game still plays, or the game freezes but the
sound still plays, etc.

This is my second copy of the game, both do the same thing.
Also, I did a memory test and it looks fine & none of my other software
seems to be having a problem.

The game looks real interesting, it's too bad.
Any similar experiences?
Did I get a bad set of disks or is there something about my configuration
that Menace can't handle (1Meg and clock hardware)?

	thx,

<Walt has a problem with Menace...>

Psygnosis games tend to use very borderline copy protection, we've found.
The game will work perfectly on some drives, but not on others. That may
be the cause of your problems. Have you tried it on someone else's machine?
We had one copy of Baal in the store that booted up beautifully on every
machine we tried it on... except the customer's, of course. :-) He ended
up exchanging Baal for Menace.

If it works fine on someone else's machine, you might try taking it back
to your dealer and explaining the problem.
