Our school just dumped our local BBS system (PARTIcipate running on a PR1ME) and they are looking for a replacement. They want something that is cheap, "can run on a '386 box with a big disk and about 16 dialup lines". Several of us have been campaigning for some form of USENET access, but our CC is clueless about UNIX, UUCP, and USENET. What they want is something that "the Student Association" can run. (Which isn't very realistic, but what can you expect.) Anyway, I have seen mention on this list of BBS's that interface with USENET (like STadel) but I haven't really seen and documentation or comparisons to other BBS's. Could someone please post a synopsis (table?) of the BBS's available for the ST and the PC. Like what is FIDO? How compatible is STadel with Citadel? What other BBS's are there? How much storage is required for these systems? How many users can these systems accomodate? How much maintenance is required? Where can they be found? I know the CC is looking for a Blue Box but we ST-types would like to find out what is available for us as well. Any help will be appreciated. cheers, -c |Chip Roberson ARPANET: csrobe@cs.wm.edu | |1328-F Mt.
