[comp.sys.atari.st] DRIVES ET AL

H235_016%ccvax.ucd.ie@Forsythe.Stanford.EDU (Padraig) (06/03/89)

I only been able to glance to the digests lately ( I'm busy with exams ) and
I don't have my printouts with me so aplolgies for any misquotes.

About hooking up more than 2 floppies to the ST I don't know about connecting
them via the DMA port but I heard that Frontier ( the distributers of Supra
drives in the UK ) have an interface that'll let you connect 30+ drives to the
external drive port. This is intented for software duplication on the cheap so
I don't know what limitations might be imposed by the driver for normal use.

Someone was trying to get info on the Degas .PI1 & .PI2 file layouts, as
far as I can remember these and several others were documented in a file I
downloaded from CANAD01. If I remember correctly it was towards the end of
the index and was described as Picture file formats or something similar.

On yet another topic in the latest list of ST mags ST-Amiga format was
mentioned. As far as I know this is soon to split into two magazines,
ST-Format which will give full ST coverage and Amiga-Format.

Does anyone have any information on the Vortex or Third Coast removable
hard drives. How much do the cartridges cost ? Vortex have only just appeared
on the UK market so perhaps some of the German ST'ers have more information.
Has the Atari megafile 44 been launched ? Is this a Bernouilli device like I
have heard ?

On a final note I think that it would be a very good idea as some have
suggested to hold a vote every year as to the best piece of software developed
that year. Sort of an Oscar/Hugo etc. There would probably have to be several
categories professional software / hardware maybe a special one for the music
market. There might have to be US / Europe catagories also as the best European
hard/software of 89 probably won't reach the US until 1990 and vice versa.

Sorry about the lack of detail or any inaccuracies in this post. I'm
stealing time I should be studying.

                                     Padraig
