There is some thoughts that I would like to get some feedback from you. I'm ju
st begin to read this list so I'm not sure whether other has post these questi
ons or not, if so please tell me where to read.
1. Does anyone can give me some direction finding information about Tape Drive
interface standard, like what does QIC-36 stand for? Can a Colorado Memory
System Inc. floppy interfce Tape drive be plug into ST floppy interface port?
Can one use a SCSI to QIC-36 controller card to connect a Tape drive? If so,
How?
2. Does anyone has experience in connect a HP 3.5" Nighthawk hard drive to ST
SCSI? It has 40 pins plug instead of standard 50 pins SCSI plug, someone said
it's customerized SCSI. How the pin connections go? and how different in SCSI
commands?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The SCSI tape controllers work fine, ICD sells a SCSI tape
system. The various floppy based tape interfaces (ie. QIC-40) don't
work. The STs floppy interface just isn't clean enough to drive one
(several companies have tried it).

The HP Nighthawk is not a SCSI drive, it is a custom version of
ST506 interface. All signals and power are fed through the 40 pin
cable. To use it with the ST you need a HP SCSI controller.

Unfortunately several mail order companies are now selling
Nighthawks (for <$250) and are saying they are SCSI. Lots of people
are buying the drives only to find they can't use them without buying a
HP controller card.
