re Best terminal program: Well, I suspect the Terminal wars will be starting again, but...... I use Flash and find that its' ease of use plus many useful features, such as Editor and "Do" files, make things very nice. I learned to use Flash shortly after it was introduced. It is up to version 1.60 at present, and the authors seem to be quite good about fixing bugs (which seem to be few and minor). Do files are much like the "Script" files as they are known in the IBM world. They allow the automation of various tasks. I have used Uniterm and find it an excellent program in its' own right. What criteria do you have for the terminal program? What will you be using it with? If you need VTxxx terminal capabilities, you can't do any better from what I have seen, than with Uniterm. Uniterm is SO VT compatible, that it will NOT accept the VT52 colour change commands, when in VT100 mode. The Flash program's VT100 emulation is fairly good, but doesn't come close to the ability of Simon's program. If you need bullet-proof uploads/downloads capability, Flash has it with Xmodem, Xmodem-1K, Ymodem all built-in. There is also Kermit and Zmodem available as enhancement programs. The CompuServe B protocol is in there as well, but I have never used it at all, so can't comment on its' soundness. Uniterm works well, and usually has no problems unless the host system's transfer protocols were the tiniest bit off. The editor is exceptional in its' ease of use. Unlike Interlink and ST-Talk Professional, it doesn't allow the ability to edit more than one file, but when you are on-line, you don't usually need to work on more than one. I tend to use it for most things, and when I want a Word Processor, I will load up First Word Plus. The newest "enhancement" available is the Background file transfer capability, which is NOT innate as in Masterlink (or so they say). I have looked at Interlink, and find it is very nice, although some of its' features are kind of odd to use after three years of Flashing around. Flash isn't as versatile as Interlink (and I suspect Masterlink) in the ability to add both file transfer protocols and Terminal emulations. We have only Basic VT52 capabilities (including the Atari ST specific commands), VT100 (most of the common commands) and a Vidtex emulation. As for File Transfers, we have available Xmodem/Xmodem-1K/Ymodem/CompuServe as built-in and Wxmodem/Zmodem and Kermit available with outside executable programs. With the hooks developed for the Background file transfer system, I suspect that the next enhancements with Flash will give more file transfer capability internal. There aren't too many missing as it is. Hope that helps. -- -===------===- From George Seto at Cerebral Cortex BBS System -==-==----==-==- (902)462-7245 3/1200 8N1 24h/7d -==-------==------ george_seto%brains@iisat.UUCP -==-==----==-==- {uunet, utai, watmath}!dalcs!iisat!brains!george_seto -===------===-
