[comp.sys.atari.st] Digitized speech

01659@AECLCR.BITNET (Greg Csullog) (06/12/89)

A new user in our local group has a daughter that needs speech therapy. She
wants to know about speech based programs on the ST. I told her that there
are two types of speech based programs; those that synthesize the sound using
the sound chip and those that replay digitized sound. The former would not
be appropriate for her daughter because of the poor sound quality. Does anyone
have info about digitized speech programs that can be used within a therapy
program?

The last issue of START that I saw had a disk based program called BABEL. On
it was the digitized voice of HAL from 2001. The voice was clear and quite a
good reproduction of HAL, including the noise from the source. BABEL is on the
road to what this new user needs for her daughter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
