[comp.sys.atari.st] Replacing the 20M drive in my SH204

ins_bjjb@jhunix.HCF.JHU.EDU (Jared Brennan) (06/14/89)

Okay, ST wizards, here's what I want to do: I want to remove the
20M drive from my SH204 and replace it with a 40M drive (maybe a 60M,
but I don't really think so). I've already opened up the case to
add the Atari Drive Enhancement (ADE) chip from Berkeley Microsystems,
and I know that there's a 5.25" drive in there. I haven't checked to
see exactly who manufactured it (should have, of course) or what
model it is. But it has to be MFM or SCSI, right? Which? This is
rather important for me to know before I purchase the new drive . . .

Second, perhaps more important, is the question of formatting,
partitioning, etc. I don't think I can use Atari's AHDI and it's
associated partitioner anymore. I've got Supra's utilities
somewhere . . . Should I use these utilities or ICD's utilities?
(If you recommend the ICD utilities, please send information on
getting these them! 8-)) I have the Magic Sac Plus and intend
to use a partition for it . . .

Please respond by EMAIL! I don't mean to start flame wars . . .
I will summarize in the news if I'm sent something particularly
interesting and/or important!

   Thanks in advance!
