[comp.sys.atari.st] GEM performance

ONM07@DMSWWU1A.BITNET ("Julian F. Reschke") (06/20/89)

Some interesting results obtained with QuickIndex 1.5
(the ST System Performance Evaluation Program by Darek Mihocka
and Ignac Kolenko). This program tests the performance of some
aspects of the Atari.

GEM-Draw-Test (multiple drawing of a dialogue):

System software 'normal' with blitter

TOS 1.4 100% 133%
TOS 1.4 with GDOS 78% 97%
TOS 1.4 with AMCGDOS 90% 115%
ABC-GEM 2.1 (GDOS is
built-in!!!) 158% 231%

This shows, that the performance of GEM could be enhanced by
- killing those Line-F-Traps in the AES
- integrating GDOS (no double trap-dispatcher)

Julian didn't show how G-PLUS 1.3 (from Codehead Software) would fare
in his tests. G-PLUS is a replacement for GDOS.

Also, what the heck is ABC-GEM 2.1??

Does it fix the problems with earlier GDOS??

How does someone go about getting it??
