[comp.sys.atari.st] BITNET Accessible Archive servers

BERNARDO@TMASL.EXXON.COM (MARCELINO BERNARDO) (06/29/89)

I've received a number of replies to my recent posting about
servers which are accesible from Bitnet. Most of the replies are from
beginning users like me and all ask the basic questions: What is the exact
address? How do you access them?

This short list is for the benefit of all new BITNET subscribers, and and those
people I could not reach from my site.

Atari ST Archive servers accesible through BITNET:

1. archive-server@ssyc.ucsc.edu
   Send a mail to this address with the word HELP.
   (This site may be going away soon.)

2. atari@terminator.cc.umich.edu
   Send a mail to this address with the word HELP.

3. listserv@canada01
   Access as a regular bitnet listserver. The list is called PROG-A16. Send
   a mail with INDEX PROG-A16 in the body to the listserv@canada01.

   I subscribed to this list 2 months ago. But, I don't know what that
   means for this site: I have not received anything from this server
   other than files which I requested.

4. uh-info@uhupvm1
   This site is only accessible through MESSAGE commands. Here is a portion
   of the index file that tells how to get help.

   * For HELP, from CMS enter: *
   *   TELL UH-INFO AT UHUPVM1 ATARINET HELP         *
   * from a VAX using JNET 2.0 or less, enter: *
   *   SEND/REMOTE UHUPVM1 UH-INFO "ATARINET HELP"   *
   * from a VAX using JNET 3.0 or more, enter: *
   *   SEND UH-INFO@UHUPVM1 "ATARINET HELP"          *
   *=================================================*
   This index was updated on Monday, 10/31/88

   Note that there has not been any new files added to this server since
   10/31/88. The last time I downloaded from this site was about a month
   ago. It is uncertain how long this server will exist.

I hope this helps other new netters out there. If you have any additions,
please post them so that the rest of us may benefit.
