[comp.sys.atari.st] UUMAIL and Mr. Moses

to_stdnet@stag.UUCP (06/29/89)

From: stag!thelake!steve@bungia.mn.org (Steve Yelvington)

Someone named "moses" has addressed a couple of messages
to.stdnet@stag.UUCP regarding UUMAIL. Apparently the program is bombing.

Note that the mailer-daemon at stag has a nasty habit of trashing senders'
addresses. Thus this message from pwcs!stag!thelake!steve will appear to
be written by to.stdnet@stag.UUCP. The same thing happened to moses'
messages, and since moses did not include a .signature line bearing an
address, nobody can reply directly to the query.

to.stdnet actually is a group discussion. If you reply "privately" to a
message and note "to.stdnet@stag" in the To: field, please check the
signature line on the original and fix the address so that your note will
be delivered to the appropriate person. And, to help battle Murphy, please
include your address in a .signature at the bottom of your note. Thanks.

Now, about UUMAIL: It works just fine if it can locate all the appropriate
files in the current working directory:
6 UUMAIL.SEQ	sequence # created and maintained by uumail
    46776 UUMAIL.TTP	the program
     3337 UUMAIL.ADR	username lookup table
     1632 UUMAIL.ATX	@system lookup table
      541 UUMAIL.CFG	configuration (essential!)
137 UUMAIL.HDR	additional header lines (optional)
      123 UUMAIL.SGN	signature lines (optional)
365 UUMAIL.SYS	UUCP host systems, baud rates, passwords (essential!)
83 UUMAIL.NWS	pseudonews rmail table (optional)
4317 UUMAIL.LOG	log generated by uumail

The uumail.cfg file should provide the name of a text editor and file
pager as well.

The formats of the above files are described in the UUMAIL documentation.
