Since the first request resulted in only three (!) answers, here we go again: (ihnp4 had problems, maybe this article didn't reach some sites) We are looking for a textformatter under UNIX 4.2 with typesetter capabilities. We want: - to use a VERSATEC V80 or a HP laserjet as an output device. - to have the possibility of adding device drivers. - pictures in the text; this is NOT VERY important. Is device independent troff a solution ? Which device drivers do exist for DITROFF ? Is it possible to write own device drivers ? Where can i get DITROFF ? While I cannot give any pointers about the Versatec I know of an excellent UNIX based package for the HP Laserjet. It comes with the entire AT&T DWB package (including ditroff) and provides very nice looking output on the Laserjet. Features include support of eqn, pic, and the ability to print special characters (greek & math symbols) that are not available in the standard ROM fonts. It will even let you insert bitmap graphics in your troff file - a special mode is also provided to handle Macpaint images. The package is called Eroff and it is available from Elan Computer Group. Their phone number is +1 415 948 8193 or you can reach them by sending mail to ...!{amdahl,hplabs}!elan!support As is traditional in this type of posting I will assure people that I have no interest financial or otherwise in Elan or Eroff (except that I like the package). -- Stephen J.
