You sure the multiface copies anything?!
Does anyone know how exactly the multi-face works. I saw the ZX spectrum
version, but that worked on NMIs which I thought weren't possible on the
ST. Besides it still won't back up disk based software unless you can copy
the disk okay.

As far as I know, it will copy anything... it does a memory dump onto disc, so it should work with everything (as long as the program doesn't look for the original disc in the drive at startup etc).
