Thanks for people respond to my previous questions about tape drive and HP
hard drive, special to Mr. Moore.
To summarize:
1. Qic-40 tape drive which use floppy controller would not function properly
with STs floppy port due to the short cut Atari made. But a SCSI tape drive
can be used with DMA port with SCSI host adaport, but programming it is not
an easy task. ICD has a SCSI tape system.
2. HP nighthawk hard drive is not a SCSI drive and the 40 pin special connect
-ion are not standard hard drive interface. I've talk with several HP engineer
, they cann't find any informations either. So better not mess with them.
Now some more questions came into my mind:
1. Does anyone has ordered from a mail order company called "Computer Elite"
in Gahanna,Ohio. I'm thinking buying some stuffs for my ST, and their price seem
good. But I would like to know how reliable is their service?
2. An Ad just surface on my desk, it's from a company call Performance
Techology,INc. They have a SCSI floppy controller for $195.00 that can take
up to 4 drive of any combinations of 3.5",5.25" or 8" floppy drive in any
capacity availble in the market now. Does anyone seen one or has hear about
it? Some people was disscuse about 1.44M drive for ST, this might be the
solution, and one might also be able to use those cheap QIC-40 tape backup
drive through this -- since it use standard floppy controller in steaded of
short-cut design.
