[comp.sys.atari.st] Aladin and Appletalk

The latest issue of Current Notes that I have says that Aladin, a German
version of a Mac emulator for the ST, will support both 128K ROMs and
Appletalk by the end of summer. Appletalk has been the missing link in our
attempts to incorporate STs into the mainstream of micro use at our company
(i.e., we have no networking capability that can link us with our VAX-
ETHERNET company-wide network; money is tight at the company and ETHERNET
boards/connections are unaffordable by most groups). Appletalk would allow
us to connect to ETHERNET via the FASTPATH bridge to be used by Mac users.

Has anyone heard of any rumours of Spectre being upgraded to support Appletalk?
While reading/writing Mac disks is an invaluable addition to Spectre's
capabilities, Appletalk capability on the Aladin may cause us to shift plans
and move to Aladin instead of turning in our Magic Sacs and Spectres for
the GCR.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that Aladin announced 128K ROM support 16 or 18
months ago (before the Spectre came out). I don't think they have
shipped it or mentioned it since then.

Dave has said on several occasions that he will support
AppleTalk as soon as there is a way of connecting it to the ST.

In the last 4 years I've been told by several ST hardware
companies that they are working on AppleTalk hardware for the ST. None
have ever made it to beta-test. I think they decided to back off since
they didn't see a big enough market to make it worth their time and
money.
