[comp.sys.atari.st] split baudrate in hardware

SPEX@HLSDNL5.BITNET (08/03/89)

I did a hardware modification on my 520 ST.
By switching a toggle-switch on the left side of my computer, I can switch
from 1200/1200 to 1200/75 baud. This way I can use my cheap viditel (prestel)
modem with Uniterm and bulletin boards. It is like using 1200 baud duplex if
you are not sending files but just use the keyboard. You are a fast typer
to exceed 75 baud!

I have a complete description ready in Dutch, but could translate into
English if you are interested. Let me know.

What I did was disconnect the TX clock from the RX clock input on the MFP
chip. Then I soldered a binary divider on that chip and installed a switch
that chooses between the original clock and the original-clock-divided-by-
16. (1200/16=75!).

All I can say is: it works !

By the way: Has anybody seen X-windows running on an ST?
Rumor says X-Soft (Germany) is working on it.

Anybody using the CD-ROM player already? I'm thinking of buying one.
