I've been looking arround for some books to suplement the rather meagre offering which came with my 520ST. I'm looking for programming/internals manuals rather than the "expanded introduction to copying disks" type books which seem to be available in excess. I've bought a book published by a company called Abacus on ST Internals and it seems good stuff, they have others on GEM, Graphics etc..etc.. But I've seen some mention of a "Hitchikers Guide to the ST" and talk of "registering as a developer" mostly from US posters, does anyone know about these things with reference to the UK (or Europe) ? Are there any "official" Atari Internals/Programmers reference manuals available ? Thanks again Francis Stevens stevens@prl.philips.co.uk

--- though there is probably no single volume which adequately describes the ST, i find it easier to use the Pollack and Weber "ATARI ST Application Programming" book 'cuz it lexically lists all the AES/VDI/gemdos/bios/xbios calls in one easy-to-handle volume. the developer's kit is probably the most comprehensive, and the most expensive. i have all the (important) abacus books, the dev kit, and a handful of others but primarily use pollack and weber, mainly for call prototypes. if you are VERY serious about the ST, get all the above and a good disassembler. working code is ultimately the best reference *8^)... if u are just getting started or don't want to spend much, get pollack and weber. -bill rosenkra@boston.cray.com
