Netters, If you own the game Falcon, by Spectrum Holobyte, and have not tried to use the modem/direct-connect feature the game provides, do so at once! The simulation is infinitely more fun when one is combating real meat. The only way I have found to preserve the speed and feel of the game is too Direct Connect, and then select the DOTS ONLY option in the SCENERY menu (you will not have time to admire any scenery anyway). If possible, place the machines back to back, turn off the lights, and crank up the volume on the monitors (I played on a system that had a stereo hookup, ALL SOUND ON a definite must). On a sadder note, I believe that modem operation between two ST's is not possible with the present version of Falcon. I have not tried connecting to another kind of machine (Mac or Amiga), but with my system ST to ST does not work. Several of my friends have experienced the same problem, so I assume that it either the code or the crappy phone lines in my area. Let me stress that I am talking about MODEMing between ST's having a problem. Direct connect works really really well, and should be tried immediately! Lack of MODEM usage shouldn't really be a loss, I expect that it would be rather slow (of course, I have not seen this %$~#%@#&). If anyone out there has made the modem option works between ST's, or anything for that matter, please post. I have direct-connected two Amigas, an Amiga and an ST and an ST to ST playing this game. Fantastic is the only conclusion I can say. The game isn't half bad at 2400 baud as well, which i have done Amiga-ST and Amiga-Amiga. If you want the best simulation of all, I'd go with the Amiga side of it, simply because the sound is better.... and of course the Amiga IS stereo, so the effect through a good stereo is short of being in the plane itself. I highly recommend attempting this yourself. Its quite amazing.
