[comp.sys.atari.st] Keyboard ailment

ins_bac@jhunix.HCF.JHU.EDU (Ajay Choudhri) (08/30/89)

My ancient rock solid 520ST has finally succumbed to some sort of
ailment. It is one of the first few made for general consumption.
Using Flash, I use the function keys to do a variety of macro/do files..
The F2 key and the Alternate key do not seem to work at all.
The F2 key upon depressing it, will give me the instruction I placed
on other Function keys..(rather annoying)
The Alternate key(I sometimes use to move the mouse cursor) now gives a keyclickand sometimes characters...
Can anyone suggest some sort of recourse?
please dont say go to a dealer..most of you know its sorta tough..
Is this problem software?? hardware(like the keyboard chip??
well hopefully someone has had this problem and it has dissappeared right??
thanks to anyone who can offer any sort of advice..

Take off the back of the keyboard
	( on my 1040 ca. 30 screws )
Lift it off with the keys-side down.
Check the rubber thingamadooeys and make sure they
are still flexi-able. If not, take some from the
	keypad and swap them.
