[comp.sys.atari.st] Turtle

Turtle 3.0 arrived at my site some days ago.
I wonder how safe this is ?
Does it still use the old twister format ? (then it's not too safe)
Any comments ?

What makes you think the Twister format is unsafe..?

The problems with restoring from Turtle disks was one of "operator
error"... that is, trying to use disks with different types of formatting
when doing a backup, rather than having them all preformatted all the
same...

Version 3.0 of Turtle now detects the format in use on a destination disk
and allows you to reformat it if it's not the same as the others..

The people who tested it, and I, beat the living daylights out of
it before it was posted. It hasn't done any damage to anything.
What exactly do you mean by "safe"?

>Does it still use the old twister format ? (then it's not too safe)

Again, what do you mean by safe?

Turtle doesn't rely on any characteristics of the "TWISTER" format.
Version 3.00 supports 9, 10, or 11 sectors per track. It will format
9 or 10 sectors, but not 11 (11 sectors is a very marginal format).

Does anyone know where the latest version of Turtle is archived? I
checked radc-softvax and didn't find one. The one on BIX is a couple
of years old. I can't locate any program archives on bitnet. Are there
any? Thanks.
