Hardrive. Its sitting here in front of me, hoping it can be hooked up to my ST. Well my questions are. 1) Does anybody know anything about Rodime 21meg HD model# RO204?? 2) It has a card edge connector. One has 10 contacts, the other part has 17 contacts, these two are separated by about a 1/2 inch. Is this standar ST506?? or SCSI or ESDI. 3) If it is ST506, I am under the impression I can use Adaptecs 4070 or 4000a controllers+host adaptor. can I do this for the others? I mean if it is SCSI or ESDI, do I just need a Host Adaptor?? or do I still need a controller. 4) I bought a case and power supply so thats no problem but does the adaptor come with a DMA cable? 5) Theres a wire trailing off this behemoth, is this a grounding wire?? thanks to everyone who can help me.. if possible e-mail me becuase, reading 30+ articles everyday, I tend to skip reading this newsgroup sometimes. some of the wierd routes you can get to me by. 301-467-4223 (seems reliable) ins_bac@jhunix.UUCP ins_bac@jhunix.HCF.JHU.EDU .. !uunet!mimsy!aplcen!jhunix!ins_bac thanks again Ajay Choudhri

It is a standard ST506/412 drive, not a SCSI or ESDI drive. >3) If it is ST506, I am under the impression I can use Adaptecs 4070 or 4000a > controllers+host adaptor. can I do this for the others? Yep, I use an Adaptek 4000a with this drive. You can use practically any 506/412 drive on an Adaptek. > I mean if it is SCSI or ESDI, do I just need a Host Adaptor?? > or do I still need a controller. You need a controller. Like I said, it does not have an embedded controller. >4) I bought a case and power supply so thats no problem but does the adaptor >come with a DMA cable? The ICD Host Adapter I use comes with the DMA cable. However, you will have to get a 50 pin header-header cable, 32 pin card edge-header cable, and 20 pin card edge-header cable. The "10 and 17 pin card edge" you referred to are really 20 and 34. Look at BOTH sides of the card. Also pin 1 on each card connector is labeled. >5) Theres a wire trailing off this behemoth, is this a grounding wire?? I had no wire hanging off mine. Is it connected to the housing, or the circuit board? Also, the bank of four "pins" on the side of the drive are ID pins. However, pin 1 (if I remember) is on the right hand side. >thanks to everyone who can help me.. You're welcome. Hi, I just put a MAXTOR EXT-4380 380 megabyte ESDI drive with an Emulex MD21/S2 controller on my system. The previous drive was a WREN 85 meg SASI using a Xebec 1410A controller. After much trouble trying to get the drive to autoboot (using SUPRA V2.6 ? forrmatter and driver) I finally started remembered an artical posted (years?) ago about removing the reset line going to the controller. That did it! I guess that the Atari BIOS tries just 1 read to determind if there's a drive out there or not, and acording to the SCSI spec, a drive will give a 'Check Status' condition upon the first read/write attempt after the reset has been asserted. Well so much for that, the reason I'm posting this is that I also put TOS 1.4 into my system (well worth it!). Well the TOS 1.0 would only allow 16 meg partions and I understand that TOS 1.4 will allow 32 megs. Using the old formatter only lets me use ~160 megs of the drive. Is there any (PD ?) utilities out there that will let me re-initialize me drive to let me use 32 meg partitions ?? Well THANX in advance. ---- .===========================================================. | ### ####### ### | N O R T H | /==============\ | | ### ### ### | A M E R I C A |< An STC Company >| | ### ####### ####### | (was CCI) | \==============/ | |-----------------------------------------------------------| | UUCP: ...ccicpg!dl2!paulm | Paul L.
