LHZ, actually LZH, is a new compression format/utility which is available
for IBM and Atari computers and gives better compression ratios than
existing means. There is a LZH.TTP program which like ZOO has a great number
of possible parameters. I find it easier to use the LZHSHELL program with it.
Handy.

GIF & IMG are not that new. GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format and
is highly compressed. It was designed and promoted by Compu$erve to replace
their old Vidtex format. It has been available for about two years and is
available for IBM, Atari ST AND XE/XL, Commodore, Mac, Amiga, and Apple
computers. The best way of printing such files would be to do a screen dump.
The other way is to change it to a "native" format for your computer system.
I know the Atari ST and the IBM computers have utilities to convert GIF to
something else. IMG format files have been around for almost as long as the
Atari ST and GEM have been around. Basically IMG is a raw picture format.
Easy Draw and a number of other programs, such as First Word Plus both have
the capability of using them. They are supposed to be resolution independent.

The difference between them and NEO and Spectrum and Degas pics is that
they are more or less computer independent. The GIF, as mentioned is
available for so many computer types that you can say they ARE a standard
method of transferring files among different computer types. (Watch out for
the IBM VGA types with 256 colours though, since they are difficult to
transfer to the ST without special utilities. Don't think they can be done on
the other computers) IMG files *_SHOULD_* be usable on ANY computer using a
GEM Operating system. This has NOT been confirmed as far as I am aware.
