The Sept. 18 issue of Infoworld magazine reports:
"Jumping on the 'small-PCs-are-better-PCs' bandwagon, Atari Computer Corp.
announced it is now shipping the Portfolio, a 1-pound, pocket-size,
MS-DOS-compatible computer powered by three AA alkaline batteries.
"Based on a 4.92-MHz 80C88 microprocessor, the $399.95 Portfolio has 128K
of RAM, 256K of ROM, and an operating system that uses MS-DOS
2.11-compatible commands."
The display is a 40x8 window into an 80x25 virtual screen.
The article also says the system features "built-in Lotus 1-2-3," which
somehow I suspect may come as a surprise to Lotus. Other built-in software
includes a basic word processor, address book, calculator and diary.
Memory cards are mentioned, but no prices are provided.
The same issue includes an article about the Poquet PC from Poquet
Computer Corp.
The 1-pound Poquet uses two AA batteries. It has a 7-MHz 80C88 and an
80x25 display. No bundled software is mentioned, but credit-card-size
"disks" are said to be available for Lotus 1-2-3, Metro, Express and
Agenda; XyWrite III Plus; Word Perfect 5.0 and Executive; and others.
Poquet system price: $1,995.
Both machines conserve power by shutting down the CPU while waiting for
keystrokes.
