I can't figure it out, someone please help! I have a MegaST2 with no hard disk. I use an IBM system at work. It would be so convenient to carry files back and forth between my computer at home (ST) and my computer at work (IBM). It works going from work to home. I have even gotten a disk formatted on the Atari and fixed to read on IBM to not give the error reading the disk on the IBM. This indicates to me the the boot-sector stuff got set up correctly. However, if the disk is written on by the Atari, then when I try to read that disk on the IBM, IBM says that the disk is a brand-new, formatted OK, EMPTY disk. E-M-P-T-Y! No files, all space available for use! So I run back to the Atari, it says that all my files are there. Atari likes them, it reads them just fine. IBM can't even see them. This even happens using PC-DITTO, so the emulation seems to be real good. To state it simply - Atari can read IBM written disk and files, IBM can not find files written onto a disk by my Atari even though it (IBM) can use the disk just fine. What is happening, why, and how can I fix it? Thanks, Terry -- T. Terrell Banks uucp: { 'insert a backbone name here' }!gatech!prism!iadt3tb Georgia Insitute of Technology - I.S.A. What is happening, why, and how can I fix it? } I found the answer to the problem I was having with the Atari not correctly writing on a disk for IBM to read. I thought the net might be interested in the answer. I was virus infected! The virus was one of those boot-sector executable things. It just installs itself in the operating system so that any time the media-change call is made the virus makes sure that the disk is infected. Nothing else will happen until some unknown trigger comes along in a new infection and then the old virus will trigger the new one (or vice versa). This virus just happened to do something to the disk that caused the IBM to be unable to find any valid files but the Atari still thought that everything was OK. All of the common virus dectector/ killer programs that I found found this thing and then could remove it. Damn near every disk I had had been infected by the time I found out what was going on. Every thing works just like it should, now. Cheers, Terry -- T. Terrell Banks uucp: { 'insert a backbone name here' }!gatech!prism!iadt3tb Georgia Insitute of Technology - I.S.A.
