I want to thank Rana Dutt for contacting me re: Is anyone out there? Re: Spectre GCR and PC Ditto II, for those who are negative on the concept of emulation; please remember that there are users whose needs may be quite different from yours and emulation is both a need and a want for them. Case in point. When I arrived at my desk yesterday, I found a note and a Mac disk. The note asked me to move EXCEL files into LOTUS for a co-worker in Manitoba and into LDW for another one on site here in Ontario. I powered up my 1040ST and when my batch file displayed a Mac, IBM and Atari logo and asked "What machine do you want to use? M=Mac, I=IBM, A=Atari", I hit M for Mac and went into Mac emulation mode. Using GCR, I slipped in the Mac disk, hiked the files into my EXCEL version 1.5 and exported them to WK1 format. I ejected the disk, hit shift HELP to cause a cold boot and then came up in Atari mode. I moved the .WK1 files to a DOS-ST format disk and read them into my LDW 1.1. Voila!, job done in a couple of minutes. Once Ditto II comes in, I'll be able to uninstall my PC apps from my XT and run them on my ST --- faster than on the XT!!!!!! Finally, do not downplay the Portfolio until you have seen and used one. Also, keep in in perspective as to which market it is targetted at, i.e. NOT the laptop market. About a month ago I asked Atari to restore my faith and they have. To close, yesterday, my dog, who was my very best friend in the whole wide world, was killed. His name was Max and I'll miss him forever. Bye for now because I have tears sliding down my cheek. Bye Max, wherever you are.
