[comp.sys.atari.st] Rainbow TOS - I'VE GOT IT!

andyc@hplsla.HP.COM (Andy Cassino) (10/17/89)

My dealer (Cave Creek, Seattle, WA) installed the new Rainbow TOS ROMs
in my Mega ST2 last Friday and I picked up the machine Saturday. Cost:
$100 plus tax. The machine booted up perfectly and ran all weekend. I
used all my applications, and I threw out half my AUTO progs - including,
finally, STARTGEM, FATSPEED, and FOLDRXXX! (Hooray, hooray, and hooray!)

NO PROBLEMS - REPEAT - NO PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED!

Along with the new ROMs, I got an official Atari flyer entitled "Rainbow
TOS Addendum" which is 4 pages long. It details the new features of Rainbow
TOS (but no details about the bug fixes).

My biggest impression thus far is that the problems with hard disk FATs is
fixed (and how). My machine used to take up to a minute to boot, what with
SUPRBOOT renaming files before FATSPEED was loaded. Now, it boots in about
10 seconds, and that's with the ICD cache installation, NEODESK and G+PLUS!

I use OSS Personal Pascal version 2.00. When I upgraded from an
old 520 to a new 1040 everything in the Personal Pascal system
continued to work except for the editor. I can still use the
system, only I have to use 1st Word to edit the programs...

So you can guess the question: how does OSS Personal Pascal version
2.00 work with TOS 1.4? If everything works, fine. Otherwise I will
probably not upgrade...

Thanks in advance,

Eric Terrell
