[comp.sys.atari.st] TT vs 386

emmo@moncam.co.uk (Dave Emmerson) (10/25/89)

I really can't resist throwing in my twopenn'th.

My first encounter with a *real* operating system was U*IX on a
PDP11, just a few years back. Sure it's a steep learning curve,
but it's nothing compared to trying to make sense of a PC, as
I'm obliged to do now, and how anyone can be enthusiastic about
a system which is inherently single-tasking (ignoring single-user,
which isn't an issue for most DOSsers) is beyond my ken.
Surely even the most devout advocate must realise that MeSsyDOS is
DEAD, even if it does refuse to lay down.
I'd put my money on a machine which can convincingly emulate DOS &
Macs and probably do it as tasks under a U*IX system, but having
read this newsgroup for a few months now, I've decided not to waste
my time waiting for the TT, I HAD to have MeSsDOS by Feb '90.

Atari take note: the complaints of your UK users are losing you
potential customers! - This one at least. The TT sounds like just
what I wanted, I like the 680x0, needed full DOS compatibility, but
didn't want to be confined to it, and I insist on being able to add
third party boards to a reasonable degree. Fine, but I also expect
to see some OFFICIAL support, if it were not for the efforts of Mr
Pratt et al, your reputation would approximately equal that of
AaaghhnottheMSTRAD! In the view of those who don't have access to this
excellent newsgroup, it may aready be worse.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls.......
