[comp.sys.atari.st] MIDI

One problem coming up:

I have to ST's.
One of them is running a BBS.
They are connected together using the MIDI-ports.
The BBS machine transmits characters to the other ST all the time.
WHY DOESN'T THE KEYBOARD, MOUSE AND JOYSTICK WORK IN SOME PROGRAMS IF THE
MIDI-IN IS CONNECTED....
Normally it works OK with the MIDI-IN connected, but some games and
programs just won't work when data is received in the MINI-IN....
The keyboard is 100% dead and i have too unplug the MIDI-IN and rebooot...
As my MEGA 4 is placed under my desk it's getting difficult to plug and
unplug the MIDI all the time -P !!!!

I'd like to do a little midi hack, which is to echo each key twice, once
immediately and once after an n-second delay. It'd be fun to noodle on.

Does anybody know of some C code which would be a good starting
point? Also how I might get my hands on it. It'd be nice to not
re-invent UART drivers and to be spared figuring out how midi commands
work -- is initialization, etc. hairy?

I looked recently for a midi electronic news group and didn't find
one. What exists? BBS's?

The Atari Dealers (at least in Canada) get a list of MIDI software in their
dealer books. The list contains over 200 titles. For the user looking for
MIDI options, contact a dealer or Atari to get a copy of the list; then
you will see that the ST is a great choice for MIDI.

RE: the new machines from Atari and Amiga, my understanding is that limited
quantities of the 1040STE are available in Canada - I do not know about the
US.
