[comp.sys.atari.st] TCP/IP and Atari ST

Don.Weeks@p0.f3107.n124.z1.FIDONET.ORG (Don Weeks) (11/07/89)

Is there any chance any of you would know of a TCP/IP program with
Telnet and FTP for the ST. I would prefer that it communicate out the
serial port to a modem using SLIP.
                             Thanks in advance.

Yes, I am currently running such a package on my ST which is part of
an amateur radio network. The package supports Telnet, FTP, SMTP and
Finger. It has drivers for both the MIDI port as well as the AUX port.
The MIDI port can be run at 30+ Kbaud. In addition I have information
for hardware modifications which allow multiple amateur radio interfaces.
The most recent version of this package, originally written by
Phil Karn, KA9Q (amateur callsign) and modified by Rob PE1CHL has
numerous other features including an elm-like mailer written by
Bdale Garbee, N3EUA.
I believe that both object and source (Mark Williams C ready) is
available from more than one site by anonymous FTP. It is available
for amateur radio and , I believe, other non-commercial use.
If you are interested, e-mail me and I will dig up more access
information.

Sure, I have one running at home.

A version of Phil Karn's NET has been ported to the ST. It's restricted
freeware, available for noncommercial unlimited free use, for
educational and personal applications. Business use is a no-no. The
principal use is ham radio; it has a lot of ham special support (i.e.,
AX.25 and NET/ROM subnets). It has SLIP too.

I don't have an FTP repository here but it's on a couple of the ones
used by the ham tcp-ers, usually called NETST or some such. The last
version I have is (if I recall) based on version 890421.1.

Maybe I should clarify a bit. I would like to use anonymous FTP to sites
that allow such. I have been told that QM (our fido mailer) has a problem
forwarding mail with lines > (some number). This precludes my feed
(TLSI) from forwarding comp.binaries and comp.sources. Also I would like
to get data from rice.edu and others. Is it possible to join Internet in
such a way to make this possible?

Let me also say that I will soon have a map entry for UFGATE. Now is it
possible to maybe get an Internet address?

Do you or ANYONE have the source to UFGate? I run the ST version of Binkley
and would LOVE to have InterNet access! I'm especially interested in
having to ability to read AND post NetNews groups on MY machine.
