[comp.sys.atari.st] Wanted Info on SCSI HARD DRIVE interfacing !!!

shc1@ukc.ac.uk (S.H.Cogheil) (11/24/89)

Recently I acquired through various sources

	1 ICD HOST ADAPTER
	1 Western Digital (WD383R) 3.5" 30mb RLL HARD DRIVE
1 Western Digital (WD1004-27x) 8-bit RLL Controller card (XT Compatible)

Now my problem is that I wish to get these things going together,
what I know is that I could buy another controller board. i.e ADAPTEC or OMTI
However what I want to know is...

Is there such a thing as a IBM XT(controller) to SCSI convertor ?
( If so where may I get one ) UK ONLY.

Is there any info on SCSI pinouts ?

Is there any info on the WD1004-27x pinouts ?

All replies will be welcomed with open EARS ...

p.s Thanks to all those who replied to my request for DIY memory upgrade info.

Uncle Sam.

Hooking it up should not be very difficult. You will need a SCSI board.
For an RLL drive, you need an Adaptec 4070. They can be had for as
little as $70. The connections are:

1) drive to Adaptec: (1) 20 pin and (1) 34 pin cable.
2) Adaptec to ICD: (1) 50 pin cable.
3) ICD to ST: Use the supplied 19 pin DMA cable.

The software with the ICD will do all the formatting. However, I don't
recall them listing Western Digital drives. You will need to know the
head/cylinder configuration to format it.

Hope this help.
