[comp.sys.atari.st] HELP! inaccessible file within ARChive ...

chris@ethz.UUCP (Christian Dreyer) (11/28/89)

I`ve put an important text-file into an ARChive. When trying to extract it
from there ARC.TTP gives an error about like the following:

THE FILE IS ARCHIVED USING 95 BITS; I CAN ONLY HANDLE 12

What can I do to get my file back?? Thanks VERY much for any help!

This usually happens because you archived the file with an encryption
key, and forgot to use the key when trying to extract it. (I've been
asked to "rescue" a couple "trashed" archives where this was the case.
Personally I'd blow off encryption. Just a hassle for your own use,
and really only a minor problem for some determined person to decrypt.)

Oh, really? Would you like to post the program to decrypt an ARC file?
Thank you!
