My local dealers can't keep ST's in stock. I called J & R earlier today. I couldn't order an ST or a Mega TODAY...that is, one couldn't go out the door TODAY.. The rep says they can't keep atari's stocked.. apparently the ad campaign is working. He said he has a 5000 piece shipment of ST's and Mega's and slm804's arriving tomorrow... and if the phone keeps ringing as it has been.. he expects to sell them all! What will it take to get the STacy and TT shown on the cover of BYTE? There's hardly a concern demostrated by BYTE people for a STacy and GCR whenever MAClones are discussed. Is the PR problem at the Atari-end ? .. or is it BYTE magazine? -kevin ramsiri@blake.acs.washington.edu

The only ads I know about are the Portfolio ads in magazines and newspapers and the great Lynx ads in the New York area. I know a few dealers are taking advantage of Atari's co-op advertising, but I've only heard about them in Texas and, I think, North Carolina.

None in the Sunday Phoenix Business section. In fact, Computer Works runs a small ad, by themseleves, but it mentions only the Commodore Amiga and not the Atari ST. So, unless you knew that CW Sells Atari stuff, you wouldn't even stop by their store. Has *ANYONE* out there in NEtland SEEN a Real Live AD for the ST, either on TV or in print? Thats good news! I've dealt with J&R a lot and they always laud the ST and its sales, their systems fly out the door and they are one of the few retailers that heavily push Atari products in full page ads every Tuesday in the New York Times. The Portfolio has been advertised by J&R every week since it was announced! Now if only Atari would keep advertising as they did earlier this year in the NY Times sales might really be something in a city of 7 million without even one authorized Atari service center <grin>. I did, ONCE. I was in the east San Francisco bay area about 3 years ago at my grandfathers house. We were watching TV and an ad came on showing the IBM PC. I talked about its bad user interface. Then a Mac Plus was shown and they made a point about its high price and no color. They then showed an ST using Supra's picture blaster program, pointing out its use of color and low price. Very nice actually, but alas, the only way to see it now is to get to Alpha Centuri before it does. -- mjv@iris.brown.edu "And, oh! `Just curious.
`
There were lots of them in print. I saw them... in 1985. They had a great
big American Flag on the screen too. Kind of ironic, isn't it?
Actually, I saw some TV ads about a year ago on an independent station. Not
lately, though.

I am amazed at all the negative trash people still post about Atari and the marketing in the US. I mean, haven't we had our fill?? Moan moan moan, bitch bitch bitch. We hear about how well Atari has done in Europe, and I feel that that is keeping Atari viable at this time (not to mention that the stock price is alright...) Atari just doesn't have the resources to do an Apple type campaign- what do you want??! They decide to concentrate some advertising in certain markets, and in some areas, are selling out of STs and Megas, and now I see someone bitch that they haven't seen it?? SO WHAT! Perhaps you live in a smaller market, where it wouldn't be as cost effective as New York, about the largest market area in the US. You have to consider that Atari is not the half billion dollar company anymore, and is reasonably successful. Anyone in the US can tell you it is not about to displace IBM, or even Apple in the real world (of business). Atari just can't spend millions in smaller markets, so wake up people. Constructive critisisms, fine. The same old moan and bitch story, knock it off. If you guys are so negative, and vindictive about Atari, why even waste time on this group? I suppose there are some nerds that get off on this kind of thing, but I thought that the users here have some kind of life.
