I have an old (1985, Rev B??) 520 ST. Sometimes, after an afternoon of "mouseing around", the keyboard and mouse stop working completely (no response to either, programs wait quietly for input). A reboot effects a temporary cure, but communication between computer and keys-mouse is rapidly lost again. I have removed and cleaned the IKBD processor, but it hasn't helped. Only shutting down for a while fixes the problem for any period of time. I have some questions: 1) Is this a known problem? If so, a) Am I correct in thinking that it is a loss of the serial link between the keyboard and processor board, due to heat? ---> b) Which end is the culprit - motherboard receiver i.c., or the ---> socketed IKBD (easy to replace 8-)) processor? c) If the problem is heat related, can I fix it by adding a heat sink of some sort? Email replies if possible. Sorry to waste bandwidth if this has come up before. Thanks in advance for any help. Bob Pegram (pegram@griffin.uvm-gen.uvm.edu)
