Recently I been wondering about hooking up a MONO monitor to my ATARI ST system, since I have only the ATARI SC1224 (Color) monitor. --- I know I can run out and buy a ATARI SM124 (Mono) monitor and hook it up, but I have been wondering since I own many other monitors for my different computers, if there was a way to hook up a monitor like a TTL one on a IBM. ---- Since I knew a lot about electronics I decided to try a hook up to the TTL IBM monitor I have, but all I got was a black screen. ---- Looking at the wiring I could not see why it didn't work, unless the SYNC levels are not matched to the TTL type. ---- Does anyone out there know how to hook up a third-party monitor to the ATARI ST? __________ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ / // / _ /__//__/\_/ /__// // //__ /__ /__/ /___ // /__// // \ / /__//__/ \/\/___//__ / \ / // MTST Metro Toronto ST User Group Librarian ___/ // CRS ATARI Chairman 416-960-0925 9am-11pm --- * Via ProDoor 3.2aR

There is no problem in hooking up any monitor - providing it has a horizontal scan frequency of 35.7kHz. The IBM one is nowhere near this, nor are most cheap mono monitors. They are available, but won't be very cheap; at least as much as a genuine Atari one. If you have some electronics knowledge you can modify a monitor to work on the new frequency, but it's a fairly extensive modification and I wouldn't do it on one you've just bought. Alternatively you might prefer to design your own and build it from scratch if you like that sort of thing. Mono monitor circuitry is pretty rudimentary and quite fun to play with. But if you just want to use it - buy an SM124! --- * Via ProDoor 3.2aR
