The reason that I posted my original message about version 1.63
is that it came without the source code. All of my previous copies
of ZMODEM were distributed complete with source. Also, the people
who wrote it did not completely identify themselves. All they left
in ZMDM163 was the message "ST Enthusiasts @ces". thanks to Bill
Silvert I now know that the ST Entusiasts are at Case WRU.
If the ST Enthusiasts had released their source code to ZMDM163 I
would have tried to fix the problem of the aborted uploads myself. As it
is I have left a couple of message here on USENET. I would like to thank
Bill Shroka and Bill Silvert for their responses. I am sorry that I can't
reach Jwahar Bammi directly.
I still do not know why ZMDM163 was released. It was appartently released
without Jwahar Bammi's knowledge, and it definitely did not credit Jwahar
Bammi for his work on it. Perphaps Jwara has not worked on the ST version
of ZMODEM?? Maybe the ST ENTHUSIASTs are responsible for the ST version
of ZMDM?? I don't know.
I do know that I like ZMDM and that it uploads at 1600 cps with my
US Robotics HST modem to several Forem ST boards. But some of my friends
can not upload at the same throughput using it on their USR HST modems.
It is very strange that it works at full-speed to only some boards.
For Jwahar's information this is how ZMDM 163 fails:
Using Zmodem to upload a SINGLE file (i.e. non-batch mode but uploading a binary
file):
FOREM BBS: Waiting for first 1024 byte block
SENDER: sends all data from file
FOREM BBS: ACKS first 1024 byte block
SENDER: starts sending the entire file a SECOND time
and it continues like this until the SENDER gets tired and hangs up.
So, ZMDM163 definitely fails, and is reproducible. ZMDM163 does not
fail on EVERY FOREM ST board, but on the boards that it does fail,
it fails everytime.
Earlier version of ZMDM did not fail in this manner, they just didn't upload
very quickly. The docs that came with ZMDM163 describe that ZMDM163 fixes the
slow upload problem but they don't mention the fialure mode.
So, the failure to upload to SOME FOREM ST board is the problem that I am reporting.
I know of severla other people who are experiencing this problem so it is
reproducible.
ZMDM163 does download at full speed w/o errors, but earlier ZMDMs did also.
