[comp.sys.atari.st] AMCGDOS

HEIMBIG@WSUVM1.BITNET (Bruce Heimbigner) (06/09/89)

I was able to UUD and ARCX the AMCDDOS.UUE, no problem. the program
definately speeds up GDOS programs and printer output. I had no problems
with easydraw, degas, or spectrum 512, but WordUp choked on some files
with an error GDOS - Invalid file handles (or some such thing) several times
while loading the file, but the file loaded just fine nothing missing
and was still formatted, other files didn't have this problem. Also with
WordUp one time the menu bar display got messed up and wouldn't correct
itself, but WordUp continued to work just fine. (these comments are
based on only about an hour of use with AMCGDOS loaded.)

Oh, by the way how did this program get out? it had a copyright notice.
Was this notice invalid or not good in the US?

Bye

AMCGDOS displays the alert 'Invalid GDOS handle', if a program does
a vdi call with an unused vdi handle. In most cases, the program
attempted to use vdi-handle 0, which is ILLEGAL.

A while back Julian Reschke posted a copy of the english version of the
german GDOS replacement (AMCGDOS). I can decode my copy, but no way can
I unarc it. I keep getting 'CRC check fails' error. Has anyone got a
working copy that they could post to me.
Many thanks in advance.

AMCGDOS is the official GDOS version from Atari Germany (they bought
a license from the author: Arnd Beissner, Scharnhorststr. 76, D-4400
Muenster). AMCGDOS is free except for commercial use. Usage is
absolutely identical to the original GDOS. Drivers and fonts
should be available at your local dealer.

This was probably already mentioned, but is there an ftp site where
I can get AMCGDOS and fonts/drivers? I think it's PD, right?
