Someone asked for a list of Atari dealers in Canada. I've been to Toronto shopping for ST supplies, but I hated the traffic, and besides that, we have 2 great dealers right here in Hamilton: Advantage Computers 247 Centennial Parkway North; Unit 11 Hamilton, Ont. L8E 2X3 (416) 578 - 6966 store (416) 578 - 7764 fax JMG CompuShoppe Harvard Square 801 Mohawk Rd West Hamilton, Ont. { don't know postal code, sorry } (416) 575 - 3200 JMG has some great specials, and I'm looking forward to their March sale. For some even better deals, come to the TAF show on April 1, 1990. In TO. Lotsa people and some great deals. I don't know the exact location or time, but a few other people should. If you're ever in the area, drop me a line, I'd be happy to show people where the stores are. What with free trade and all, I think it is quite legal to bring computers and equipment across the border duty free. But don't quote me on that. -- "After all is said and done, John Schmitt a lot more is said than done." johns@maccs.dcss.mcmaster.ca Don't blame anybody for what I say. SCHMITTJ@SCIvax.mcmaster.ca

According to my local Atari dealer, he can lose his dealership if he send's machines to the U.S. Since Canadien Atari computers are not FCC approved, they cannot be sold to the U.S. Please ask your dealer before posting his address, he (or of course she) may not want to be bothered by lots of requests for STe's that he can't fill. Who is asking the dealer to "send" anything. I think we are talking about walk-ins here. My dealer did not ask if I intend to take my machine to the US. I know of another who may have contributed to the current shortage of Mega ST2's in the US by purchasing there and carrying with him to a third country. None of these activities are illegal, nor should they endanger the status of a dealership. Good grief. L. J. IF in fact there is a internal difference in the US STe (or other models) and someone complains(TV, radio, aircraft...etc reception) --> I think the FCC will be a knocking on your door real soon. Also I would guess that the FCC would talk to the border patrol about this for those occasional random checks. Just remember it IS illegal and if you are caught expect to loose your computer. I would compare it to importing a car from another country that does not have the same emmisions controls. Radio wave polution is on the same order as air, noise, and other polutions; even if we can't see it, it probably will affect somebody! I hope in the future Canadian dealers will not sell to Americans, I believe it IS risky for them. I just want to clarify: I am not suggesting or encouraging any illegal activity. Blaine does not say just what illegal act he has in mind. Perhaps he is thinking of smuggling. I do not suggest that. >I hope in the future Canadian dealers will not sell to Americans, >I believe it IS risky for them. There are several ways that Americans can buy from Canadian dealers with no risk to anyone. Do you have a financial interest in the success of an Atari dealership near the Canadian border? -- L. J. So he can't send a computer to the U.S. Does this mean that he can't sell to an American who has come north to purchase a computer? I doubt it.
