[comp.sys.atari.st] Questions

#JMKLAS@WMMVS.BITNET (03/15/88)

I have a question (several, actually):

What, exactly, is IDRIS? Is is commercially available? How much is
it? What are its features?

Also, what is the ABAQ, and what is the Transputer?

I'm obviously lost... Can anybody explain?

Thanks in advance,

I have a few questions I would like answered..
I am using aercos memory board (Goes to 1 2.5 and 4 megs..) on my bbs system
and plan to add 2.5 meg to that system. This will leave me 16 256k chips I can
then use in this other ST that I have.. Both st's are very old st's (Date
around the time the amigas came to market)
What would be the best board to take advantage of this extra memory?
I also want the capability of going to 2.5 or 4 meg of memory in the future..

Another question I have is also about my bbs..
I am using a 277r as my main drive at the moment (65 megs rll) and it is rather
full and I want to get a new drive added so that when it does become full I
don't need to worry about it.
I have a half height drive slot kleft and am using the adaptek rll controler..
Can someone tell mewhat the best drive I can get would be?
I plan on getting another 277r but if I can get a faster or bigger
drive I would love to...

A question that is also related to my bbs..
I wish to add a 9600 baud modem and it seems that the US Robotice line of 9600+
baud modems is quite extensive..
Can someone let me know what the best value will be for these?
I want to be compatible with as many modems as possible and go as fast as
possible for under $1000.. (Realize I get a sysop price on the modems since
I run a bbs and all their modems are under $1000 at the sysop price)
Also, will the DC port handle fixed link access at 34k baud? (The newest
VERY fast modems suposedly can do close to 34k baud in fixed link mode with
compression etc..)
Since I am doing alot of ld calling nightly through my Forem ST bbs the faster
the modem the more money I will save.. So price doesnt mean anything different
than meaning that much longer before it pays for its self..

Oe last question..
My st I am currently typing on has a problem..
About 50% of the time I turn the omputer on it does not power up...
The Power LED comes on but nothing happens with the computer..
Normally when I reset the computer it DOES come on but the initial power up
doesnt seem to do much...
My local Atari Tech told me it has to be my powersupply..
Is this a correct assumtion? I would like to know before I pull it apart and
makwe a mess of it..

Hello STer:
Locally we going to have a computer fair and our user group would like to show
some good demo on ST so that local people would be awared of ST's power.
However we don't have much demo nor good one, Any suggestions and/or sources
for this? The show would be Nov. 18 and 19.
Also some members in the club is considering to memory upgrade using the file
that have been posted in this newsgroup. Does anyone has used that scheme to
upgrade their memory and any comments, like, dislike?
Thanks in advance for any help, sugguestions that you can provided.

Hi there...

I am looking for a program to control the drive speed for a 5.25 inch
drive on an Atari ST that works with Tos 1.4. Is there any out there
that someone can suggest?

Has anyone heard word of anything beyond Masterlink 1.1?

My local atari store cannot get ahold of Spectre GCR. He says all the
distributors are out. I live in Gainesvill, Florida. Can someone
name a distributor that has Specter GCR or a store that has it? Dave? Anyone?
