    About the monochrome monitor business;
    How about the NEC Multisync IIgs? It's usually available through mail-order
at around US$150 and is supposed to be a great screen. It's a true monochrome
multisync - and I THINK should handle the colour signals as well, simply
changing them to gray-scales.
    You might want to check it out.

PS: I have no affiliation with NEC; I don't own a IIgs, so reality-check all
statements first.
