STIBOREK@VAXB.ACS.UNT.EDU (03/20/90)

Hello All
I'am planing to construct a hard drive system based on the
Seagate embedded SCSI ST 296N 85 Meg Hard Drive. I was wondering if
anyone has purchase this unit and would comment on it's performance/and
or any problems that you have had with this Mec.
Please reply E-Mail
Thanks John Stiborek

I own an 296N and I think it's a good mechanism to own. It's shining point is
that it is the best deal in town in price/capacity ratios (or at least when
I brought it about a year ago).
It has performed flawlessly in conjunction with a ICD host adaptor and
formatted in 1:1 interleave. This is what I set it up for, but I'm not sure
if it's actually 1:1 interleave, but it's fast enough so that I don't care.
The only problem is that this is my second one. The first one I brought died
in a week, so I sent it back and got a new one.
The 296N is the only drive I have owned or worked with, so I don't know how
it performs against other drives, but in my book it's solid and reliable.

                                                         Derrick
