Hello all, Just wanted to nip a growing rumor in the bud. Seems that A-Max is having difficulty in running System 6.04. On several of the nets in this part of the Lone Star State, a lot of STers who don't have Spectre are naturally assuming that the Spectre GCR can't run 6.04 either. Well, so what? Ok, the rumor continues with the idea that after System 6.03, emulated Macs will not be able to run the newer Mac system software. I was shocked how common this rumor has been in this area... all as a result of some Amiga A-Max folks expressing distress over 6.04. So to nip it in the bud... there is nothing to the rumor. I'm typing this message on a Mega2 ST that's been upped to a Mega4, am running System 6.04 on my Spectre GCR (version 2.3), and am in MultiFinder. Interestingly enough, I have more memory available. Also, interestingly enough, the Spectre appears to be 'snappier' and a bit quicker. I never had an interest in 6.04 mainly because Apple says that it is for the Mac IIci's and Mac Portable. Other systems supposedly won't benefit. So, for what it is worth... System 6.04 will indeed run on an Atari ST via Spectre. As far as the A-Max unit is concerned, this is a problem of A-Max's own making. Thanks again to Dave Small for making total and legal use of system calls and algorithms instead of shortcuts to get OUR GCR to work!!!
