[net.music] Splitting net.music into itty bitty pieces - and Ives

jeffw@tekecs.UUCP (Jeff Winslow) (02/11/84)

Well, I can believe the vehemence with which Rich Rosen opposes splitting
net.music. And I agree with him. All this stuff about pinkies
getting calloused from hitting n - gee, that's a real problem! Efficiency
in reading net.music? I though reading net.music was recreation - why do
you insist on taking it so seriously?

I'm about ready for one split-off group, though - net.should.we.have.a.
split.net.music. As Schoenberg said, "Was hat das mit der musik zu tun?"
(probably not literal - my German is lousy)

About Ives - I wasn't aware he developed serialism - can you give an
example? Also (nitpicking warning), polyphony was "invented" by a bunch
of monks back in the 11th century (in the West, anyway). I think perhaps
you mean polytonality?

A concert of Ives would give me the hives!
				(just kidding)

You are getting the point.
